Wine and food in Spain

Don't feel like cooking yourself?

Then you can walk to enjoy the real Spanish cuisine. Various restaurants in all price ranges can be found in Lo Pagan. Here are some restaurants: El Rubio 360 - Venezuela - Los Molinos - D Lounge (Belgian owner) - Capitan grill - nice beach bars - etc .... Some Spanish culinary recommendations:

Tapas, small hunger killers for the aperitif. Try the hand-cut Spanish ham (Serrano or Pata Negra), the croquetas de Jamon, salada russa, poulpe a la gallega (squid), tortilla (potato pie), Almejas (small shells with white wine prepared), gas pacho (cold pepper / tomato soup) ), ...

Paella, this rice dish is on almost all cards in the typical Spanish restaurants. You have the secco (dry, as in the photo) or semi secco (looks like a fish soup). You can order it with fish, shell and shellfish. You can also get it with meat (rabbit, chorizo, chicken). A variant of paella is a fideua (looks like small pieces of pasta). With paella and fideua you always eat Aioli (garlic mayonnaise). Enjoy......

If you like a piece of meat with your meal, try pluma Iberica (tender piece of fresh meat from the Iberian pig), paletilla de cordero (leg of lamb baked in the oven) or a piece of Rubia Gallega (beef usually baked on charcoal). Tasty together with patatas bravas (oven-baked potatoes with a red spicy sauce). Enjoy !

Fresh fish, shellfish and crustaceans are of course available. Every large municipality including Lo Pagan has its own fishermen. The well-known fish that can be found at the restaurant, both fried or grilled, are Bacalau (dried cod in sea salt), Robaballo (turbot), Lenguado (Dover sole), Merluza, etc ....

Spanish grapes and wine regions

Did you know that Spain is the 3rd largest wine country in the world. As an aperitif you drink a Cava (Spanish champagne). A fresh white wine for fish dishes, paella, shell and shellfish: Verdejo (Rueda), Albariño (Rais Baixas), Chardonnay (Penedès), Macabeo and Moscatel (Alicante). For a hearty meat dish: Tempranillo (Rioja, Penedès, Ribera del duero) Monastrell (Alicante, Jumilla), Bobal (Valencia), Gernacha, Cariñena, Syrah (Priorato, Penedès). For dessert a glass of sweet wine moscatel (Alicante) or a hearty Pedro Ximénez (sweet sherry). You can drink a nice fresh rosé wine as an aperitif, with light fish dishes and meat dishes.
